BE MERCIFUL, O LORD, FOR WE HAVE SINNED.
Today’s
Today’s readings deal with
the pivotal issue(s) or life and death. They offer both positive and negative
experiences of the reality of coping with limitations. They powerfully intimate
that a life without limits is not a genuine life.
Limitation is a fact of
life; indeed it is the condition for living. To live to the fullest means to
exercise freedom by accepting restraints. To be fully alive means to opt for
good in the face of evil.
To know good and evil means to realize the difference between the two. To live means to enjoy physical existence. The dilemma of the couple in the garden (and hence the dilemma of us all) is to accept full life by acknowledging the limits necessary in our authentic existence. Reflecting on the experience of David, the Yahwist author of today’s Genesis story demands we promote life by accepting its necessary limits.

Endowment It is now official. There are two ways you can remember St. Mary Church in your will, either by a contribution to the Church or with the endowment – a permanent gift that keeps giving each year. Our total is $3,000 thanks to the generosity of some donors to help us get this started. Once the total reaches $10,000, we would get a disbursement of 5% if we so choose. If the interest payment for the year is, say 8%, we get a check for the 5% and 3% is added to our investment total. If anyone at anytime wishes to make a contribution, contact the Catholic Foundation.
Fr. Gerard Gonda, O.S.B. will be here Saturday, February 16, for a day of recollection – 9:30 AM – 2 PM. Topic is: The Body of Christ. We will begin at 9:30 AM with Morning Prayer and conferences: How we can see with the eyes of Christ; How we can speak with the mouth of Christ; Listening with the ears and Heart of Christ.
