REDEMPTION.
Today’s Readings
We sometimes reach a point
where despair takes over and depression reigns supreme. We feel overwhelmed by
life’s shocks and incapacitated by our own failure. Self-pity often becomes the
expression of our profound misery. We feel we are old bones incapable of new
life.
Today’s readings deal with
the very real problems of anxiety and hopelessness. Yet they clearly announce a
God who becomes involved in human tragedy. This is the God of the living who
chooses to become concerned because concern is a manifestation of life. This
God unequivocally enables old bones to have new life.
Whatever form human despair
takes, the process of overcoming despair is fundamentally the same. It is to be
in the presence of God and to breathe the Spirit upon our world. Hope then
becomes possible and life becomes livable.
To provide jobs for the unemployed is clearly in the tradition of Ezekiel: Graves open and the Spirit breathes new life. To care for the elderly and the shut-ins is certainly in the tradition of Paul: The Spirit influences our moral choices and outreach to others implies we belong to Christ.
HOLY WEEK SIGN UP SHEETS are now in the sacristy. We need a lot of volunteers for Eucharistic Ministers, servers, readers, greeters, ushers for Holy Thursday, Eucharistic adoration after Holy Thursday Mass, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday.
NOTE:
On behalf of Christi Layne, she would like to thank the
community for their generosity and support. A number of people have asked about
making donations in her name for her continued recovery. An account has been
established in Christi’s name at Fifth/Third Bank for this purpose. She feels
blest and supported. Please know that any money not used for her recovery will
be donated to the Domestic Violence Task Force. Deborah Huffman (daughter of
Joni Herschede) works for Fifth/Third Bank and was responsible for setting up
this account for us. She would like to make a challenge pledge that she will
match all donations to the Fifth/Third account up to a total of $5,000. The
challenge pledge will expire on 4/30/08.

Restoration Update As of February 20th. Total cost for the project is $917,377.45. This is $5,166.45 more than previously reported due to a late billing. Pledges totaled $807,147.51. So far the paid pledges-to-date is $695,311.16. Pledges still due are $111,836.35. Difference between the pledges and the total cost is $110,229.94. This plus the still owed on pledges equals $222,066.29. This is the total we still would owe on the loan to the diocese. Interest on the loan paid so far is $43,000 plus! 86% of the pledges have been paid in full. If you haven’t paid your pledge, please do so…if you have and are able to contribute more, please do so. God bless you for your generosity to our church.
