THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE. LET US REJOICE
& BE GLAD
Today’s Readings: Some see Easter merely as the harbinger of spring. We reach that part
of our yearly cycle where longer days and warmer weather are upon us. Hence, we
rejoice in this phase of nature, equating Easter Sunday with the vernal
equinox. It is difficult to admit that Easter has other connotations.
Today’s readings demand that
we view Easter more in terms of personal conversion and less in terms of
seasonal changes. They help us to understand Easter as the transformation
experience of Jesus, which in turn is to become the transformation experience
of Christians. The empty tomb is the invitation to a fuller life.
The stones of Psalm 118 and
Matthew 28, as well as the dough of 1 Corinthians 5, are powerful images
designed to bring about change in daily living.
Husbands and wives who deepen their mutual love and commitment are indeed fresh dough. They transform their own lives as well as the lives of others. Those who overcome drug or alcohol dependency, or similar dependencies, were once the stones rejected by the builders. Their new lifestyle, however, indicates that they have become cornerstones.
THE FEAST OF THE
DIVINE MERCY
Join us at St. Mary’s for the celebration of Mercy Sunday on March 30th
at 3 PM. We will implore God’s mercy with Eucharistic Adoration and
Benediction, musical recitation of the three o’clock prayer, the Chaplet of The
Divine Mercy, the blessing and veneration of the Divine Mercy image, and
conclude with the closing prayer of the Nine Day Novena which should begin on
Good Friday and continue for nine days through Saturday, March 29th.
THE LITTLE WHITE BOOK is available again at the side and back tables. This
little book is meant to help you enjoy six minutes a day in prayer during
these next 50 days of the Easter season. Pick up your copy today!
ST. VINCENT DEPAUL WILL BE AT THE DOORS AFTER MASS NEXT WEEKEND FOR
THEIR 5TH SUNDAY COLLECTON.
ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD: In Christianity,
the Annunciation is the revelation to Mary, the mother of Jesus by the
archangel Gabriel that she would conceive a child to be born the Son of God.
The Christian churches celebrate this with the feast of Annunciation on March
25, which as the Incarnation is nine months before the feast of the Nativity of
Jesus, or Christmas.
In years when March 25 falls
during Holy Week or Easter Week, the Annunciation is moved to the Monday after
Easter, this year – March 31.
Since our church is named
for this event – please try to attend even though it is not a holy day.

“CALLING” ALL SCIOTO COUNTY VOCATIONS: A committee has been formed representing the
Catholic community in Scioto County. The county deanery has formed a Vocations
Committee to raise an awareness of the importance of vocations. Our first
initiative is to identify all the vocations from each parish and to celebrate
the lives of those people who made a choice to serve God through the
consecrated life or priesthood. We are asking you to help us identify and share
any information, pictures, awards, etc. that you may have about these people.
If you are interested in investing in the vocations of your church, and want to
be a part of this “call” to celebrate vocations, call Julie VanHoose at
606-932-4920 or Theresa Metzler at 740-355-9512.
