I will praise your name forever, My King And My God.
Today’s Readings: We often hear the expression,
“Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” Today’s readings seem to better imply
that presence makes the heart grow fonder. We seem to look for tangible
signs to indicate that our loved ones are still present. Such signs may take
the form of photos, keepsakes, or memories. Almost instinctively, we act as if
it is our solemn duty to make present the legacy of the past. Today’s Scripture
readings build upon these human reactions. They powerfully suggest that the
modern Christian can – and must – make God present in a variety of ways. They
insist that presence makes the heart grow fonder.
Today’s readings speak to a
variety of people. They address the official proclaimers of the Word (Paul and
Barnabas) as well as the officers (elders) of the community. They also appeal
to the rank and file, the people in the pews, with a timeless message regarding
God’s presence in the world. These readings teach us that wherever and whenever
one offers consolation to another, God is present. Wherever and whenever one lends a helping
hand to the unfortunate, God is present. Love reveals our God and thus provokes
a presence that makes the heart grow fonder.

Thank You
Thanks so much for hosting our benefit concert for the “Find a Voice
Fund” in honor of little Ellie Bennett, who found her voice through the
electronic device which will now in part be funded for other children like
Ellie. Your kindness is so much appreciated, both by the choir, and the Bennett
family.

From the Pastor’s Desk
Stained Glass Windows – Lookin’ good! And they are secure. We did this project
at the right time too. Jason, Jason, Charles, and Seth were highly
professional, knowledgeable, and nice guys. This by far was the best crew we
have had working for us. If you had the chance to talk to them, see them at
work, you would know how fortunate we were to have them here. The work done
cost $39,950. With 2009 BAA, donations, and a grant from the Scioto
Foundation ($2,500), we were able to complete the project. For the next two
windows (also in terrible shape right now) we have $11,451.03 in a reserved
account…to be used only for our windows. “St George” and “Chris Columbus” will
cost $17,000 each. Reinart’s, who did the work, will send a crew to do these
two windows. It would be nice to complete these as soon as possible. I
encourage you to go into the choir loft and see the completed windows and what
needs to be done for George and Chris. Wow, was each window named for our
Deacons? What a coincidence!
