O God, let all the nations
PRAISE YOU!
Today’s Readings: Problems can present the
opportunity for our faith to grow and deepen. All too often, we see problems in
a negative light. They threaten us. They overpower us. They are faith crises,
not faith opportunities. This day’s Scripture readings can teach us to view our
problems in a more positive light. Rather than provoking despair, problems can
become the springboard for growth.
Chapter fifteen of Luke’s
Acts of the Apostles presents a pivotal scene. It describes the moment when the
Christian Church must break with its Jewish structure and customs.
There can be problems in
one’s marriage, in one’s career, in one’s family, in one’s parish. The authors
of today’s readings maintain that our difficulties and frustrations may become
the raw material for growth. They exhort us to look at our problems through the
eyes of faith. Although the pain and anguish may be very apparent, we can also
find in our problems a God who bids us to grow in our faith. Despite great
trials – indeed through such trials – rewards do come to those who persevere in
faith.
Are there people in your
life who prescribe to what you consider to be unnecessary (scrupulous)
religious practices? Are there those who are too lax for your liking? What is
your response to either or both such persons?
CONGRATULATIONS to Kaylor Joan Schultz, daughter of Kris and
Laura (Clausing) Schultz who was baptized last weekend here at St. Mary’s.
TAKE NOTE:
TO HONOR OUR DEANERY PRIESTS IN THIS Year of the
