The LORD is KING, THE MOST HIGH over all the EARTH.
Today’s Readings: Words
like family, fellowship, and unity usually call to mind the people who are
related to us by the bonds of blood and/or friendship. As Christians, we also
can feel a unity with those who are related or seek to be related to us by the
bonds of faith. What should be our attitude toward those inside and outside our
faith community? Today’s readings deal with such a question. They imply
that we cannot casually dismiss the issue of unity and fellowship.
According
to the Acts of the Apostles, Christians must work for unity, and respond to
violence and opposition with forgiveness and love. A willingness to forgive the
faults of those who shun our friendship is the hallmark of the Christian.
According to Revelation, the Christian must constantly strive for fuller union
with Christ and other Christians. The effort to persevere in the work of unity
and peace is a characteristic of a Christian. Ecumenical attempts to bring
unity to separated Christian churches, as well as programs that are designed to
foster justice, equality, and peace among all peoples, draw their impetus from
Jesus’ teachings about unity. According to John, a Christian must exhibit
a unity that is based on love for all. The resolve to reflect the Father-Son
relationship is the stamp of the Christian.
Congratulations
to Courtney Huffman and Paul Wagner who were married last weekend at St. Mary’s. May they enjoy many happy years together.
Our Sympathy
Please pray for the
repose of the soul of John Emmert, father of Debbie Schwamberger. May
our ever-loving God grant him eternal peace and comfort his family at this time
