My soul is thirsting for You, O LORD My GOD.
Today’s Readings: God gives us existence. The
ways of God give meaning and purpose to our lives. Sometimes, however, we tend
to think we can find our identity solely within ourselves. We experience
enormous difficulty in breaking free of the gravitational pull of our own egos.
We focus on our successes, our accomplishments, our triumphs. Today’s readings
recommend that we search for our true identity beyond ourselves. They intimate
that God is the true source of our identity – the one who gives meaning to our
lives.
In today’s readings we find
disturbing challenges. They provide the powerful reminder that we must look to
God to find the true answer to the question, “Who are you?” We are daughters
and sons of God, united in the body of Christ. We are to flee from our
harshness and our thoughts of self-sufficiency. We must stop looking only to
satisfy our egos, our desires, our creature comforts. We need to focus on the
presence of God in the lives of others. Through the prism of the cross, we will
see that our true calling is like that of Jesus – to give our lives in service
of others.
No matter what we want in
life, it is never enough; once we get it, it fails to satisfy our longing.
Saint Augustine once said, “Our hearts are restless, Lord, until they rest in
you.” Can you relate to his thought?
Father’s Day
Beloved God, we thank
you for giving us Dad and for the many ways he shows us your fatherly care. On this,
his special day, we ask you to bless him with your peace and joy. Give him the
strength and understanding that he needs to care for us as a family. Help us to
appreciate more all he does for us and to show him how much we love him. Amen

A
father’s influence….studies show
that if the mother of a family attends worship, there’s a 16 percent change
that the rest of the family will also attend. Yet when a father attends worship, there’s a 93
percent chance that other family members will be present, too. Just think, Dad, of the clout you have. Hope to see you
in church.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION next weekend. Provides the Holy Father with the
assistance he needs to carry out his most important charitable works. The
proceeds benefit the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and
disasters.
FIRST COMMUNION BANNERS: If you
haven’t done so, will you please pick up your banner along with a CD, which was
made especially for you! They are in the little room to the right of the altar.

CALLING ALL PAINTERS You don’t have to be Michelangelo! Two rooms in the school need
painting right away…the old “wrestlers” room and the “bride’s room”. Patching
has been done and new carpet is ready. The rooms are currently used for the
Juvenile Court system for counseling. If you can hold a paint brush and move
your hand back and forth, up and down – we need you! Call the office at
354-4551. We will get a list and then contact you for the best times and dates.
Patience with
the TV mass. We still are not 100% back with the equipment. Sound system is working
but the cameras are not. Pat Donini is using his personal camcorder for the
video portion. Live Technologies worked on the microphones and they seem to be
working ok now. One of the cameras has been sent for repairs. When that comes
back, we will send out the other two cameras.
