Let all the EARTH cry out to
GOD with JOY.
Today’s Readings: Even advertising constantly
urges us to be in contact with other people, but all too often we choose
isolation over involvement. We reason that we lack the time or the talent for
proper communication or presence. Today’s readings, however, show that God’s
communicators come in a variety of shapes and forms. They reveal that none of
us can consider ourselves exempt from the mission of sharing God’s Word. Their
message is to reach out and touch someone.
The maternal Yahweh imagery
of the Third Isaiah, the suffering motif of Paul, and the mission charge of
Luke have a common theme and yet they are also different. By insisting on the
need for communicating God’s Word, they are the same. By offering a variety of
communication models, they are different. They challenge us to respond in
appropriate but different ways to the needs of our world today where we must
reach out and touch someone.
We do not necessarily have to be outstanding orators. A quiet but genuine reaching out in a smile, a handshake, or an embrace has its own eloquence. The patient acceptance shown by a sick or disabled person is moving testimony that the message of Paul lives on. The daily concern of parents for the well-being of their children announces in its own unobtrusive way that the reign of God is truly in process.
Happy 4th of July
Lord, bless our country and its leaders. Bless our president,
our Senators, our Representatives, and our Governor. Give them wisdom to lead
well. Help us all to take our responsibilities as citizens seriously. Give us
the courage to fight all discrimination, wherever we find it, so that our land
truly can become one of “liberty and justice for all.” And give us the strength
and the willingness to work together for peace and justice throughout this
world.
Amen

Thank You
My family and I would like to thank our family, St. Mary’s, for their
support, prayers and care for my husband, George, myself, and our children this
past year.
Being unable to assist on the altar was as difficult for him as his
cancer treatments. His ministry, our marriage, our family could never be
separated, it was our life together.
Thank you to the Mercy Meal committee – according to many, the food was
wonderful. I did manage to get a pecan slice at some point.
The music was joyful. No matter what your attendance numbers are
upstairs our choir can sound like a group of 100 plus members. So many were
impressed – our Bishop Frederick Campbell, clergy, George’s
colleagues and friends from out
of town and our Portsmouth family.
To Fr. Ted and Deacon Chris, David and Sally Ferrell, Dan Saez, Jim and
Laura Call, Frank, Julia and Sean Byrne, thank you for being with us through
our journey. The journey never ends.
“There is a certain grace in knowing how to say goodbye. The heart
takes its leave”. The greatest challenge is change and the memories the
sweetest gift of all.
Thank you and God’s blessings to all of you.
