Turn To The LORD In Your Need, And You Will Live.

Today’s Readings:  A true Christian shows boundless love, forgiveness, and compassion toward others. Too often, however, we establish limits beyond which we will tolerate no excuses and exhibit no mercy. In our pragmatic business style we sometimes compute debits and credits in our human relationships. We enact our own statutes of limitations. If someone hurts us and does not seek forgiveness within a specific time, we refuse all compassion to the perpetrator.

We see many strangers along life’s road, many undesirables, many who could render us unclean, or cost us money. They should appeal to our sense of compassion. At times that compassion may merely demand that we reach deeper into our wallets and pocketbooks, but at other times compassion will surely exact a higher price. The lawyer’s question, “And who is my neighbor?” begs for our answer. That answer will reveal how well we understand and live the example of the boundlessly compassionate, forgiving, loving God.

Do you have any “neighbor” whom you find unworthy of boundless love, forgiveness, and compassion?

VISITING MISSIONARY NEXT WEEKEND.

Fr. Sebastian Pandarathilkudiyil V.C., a Vincentian Missionary Priest from India, will be in our parish on July 17-18 weekend to participate in our Annual Missionary Cooperation Plan. He will preach at all the Masses and will make an appeal on behalf of the Vincentian Missions.

The Vincentian Congregation, a Religious Congregation, was founded in Kerala, India, in 1904, modeled after the Congregation of the Mission founded by St. Vincent de Paul. Members of this flourishing Religious Congregation, all natives of India, are engaged in Mission Work in all parts of India and in East Africa.

The Vincentian Missionaries need our help to carry out their many missionary, educational and charitable activities. They need our special financial support for the training of young men studying for priesthood. There will be special mission collection next weekend to help with the missionary work. We urge you to be very generous in your mission offering since these Missionaries need our help. Please keep Fr. Sebastian and all the Vincentian Missionaries in your prayers.

From the Pastor

Weddings - Several months ago, all the priests and bishops in the State of Ohio met at a convocation regarding the Sacrament of Marriage. In our Diocese, we have, starting July 1st, new forms for Marriage. These are not just the “Information for Marriage” that we had in the past, but now include other information forms that need to be completed. A couple planning a marriage in the Church must meet with the priest or deacon at least 6 months prior to the ceremony! Calling the office to see if a date is open is just that. No dates will be reserved until the couple meets with the priest or deacon who will witness the marriage. It will now be necessary to meet as a couple and individually with the presiding minister. The four meetings that were mandated in the past will now become at least six meetings. Pre-Cana and FOCCUS are still mandatory. Freedom to marry needs to be determined, not just “no previous marriages”, but that a couple freely chooses to live out their commitment of life and love without any undue pressure from the outside or within themselves. It is necessary also for Catholics to have received the three Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. We will be checking the Baptismal certificates for these sacraments. If you have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation, you will be required to take additional sessions with the presider and received Confirmation prior to the Marriage. If your Confirmation is not on the Baptismal Certificate we receive, you will need to contact the parish where you were Confirmed for a separate certificate. We will be reviewing the present “Guidelines for Marriage at St. Mary’s” which will become the “Rules and Regulations for Marriages at St. Mary Parish”. These are not suggestions! The church is not just a pretty backdrop for a ceremony but a witness to the faith of the couple. Mentoring couples will be assigned to a couple preparing for marriage and they must meet regularly during this preparation period. We as a parish must make certain that a couple is ready to receive this special Sacrament. More to come later.                                                                         ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
